We are Northumbria Sport

We are the sport and physical activity arm of Northumbria University. We are committed to student wellbeing and ensuring students can access a wide variety of sport and physical activities within our two impressive sport facilities and specialist external facilities for sports such as equestrian and golf. 

Sport Central based at City Campus, boasts state-of-the-art gym, studio, six lane 25m swimming pool, sauna, steam room, four sports halls and climbing wall. 

Coach Lane Sports Ground based at Coach Lane Campus has a sports hall, four grass football pitches as well as three multipurpose artificial pitches, which accommodate a range of sports such as American Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Football, Rugby Union, and Rugby League.

Sport & Activity

We have a range of opportunities to take part in sport, whether you want to meet new people, try a new sport, or compete in a sport you have always loved.

Our 35 Student Sport Clubs offer students the opportunity to take part at a range of levels of sport participation, from non-competitive sport to competitive BUCS teams.

Sport Central boasts a state-of-the-art MATRIX Fitness Gym. A free-weights area that hosts six lifting platforms, fully equipped strength and cardiovascular machines, as a zone for all your functional training needs

Volunteering

Northumbria Sport Volunteering and Internships programme is a nationally Award-Winning Programme that offers you fantastic opportunities to work with industry professionals and gain valuable experience and employability skills. We offer opportunities working within our Northumbria Sport programmes, National Governing Bodies, external organisations, in the local community, and even internationally through the Volunteer Zambia Project!

Performance Sport

Northumbria Sport supports around 175 student athletes each year across a range of sports through our tailored sports scholarship programme. Northumbria Sport offer scholarships to support athletes on their dual career journey, enabling them to develop their sporting ability whilst gaining a quality degree!
