Lucy Godsmark

Finance and Investment Management

What appealed to you about Newcastle Business School?

I was very impressed that students on the Finance and Investment Management course have access to Bloomberg Terminals, something that not all universities offer.

What appealed to you about your chosen course of study?

When I saw this course I was automatically interested, the idea of studying about stocks and shared intrigued me from the start.

What do you like the most about the programme?

I particularly like the fact that this is a relatively small course size, therefore we all know each other really well. I also love the fact that we have daily access to Bloomberg terminals.

Did you do a placement? If do, where was it and what did you enjoy the most about it?

I had the opportunity to study abroad for one semester in Australia. It has been a fantastic experience and I also took a placement with Deloitte.

What do you do when you’re not studying?

I work part time as a waitress alongside my degree. What is really good about this course is that the contact hours tend to be spread across the week.

What are your career ambitions for the future?

At the moment, I have every intention of progressing forward with Deloitte and completing the graduate scheme with them, however my time in Australia really made me think about the possibility of pursuing a career there.

Have your ambitions changed since starting the programme?

Yes, I’ve always been ambitious and driven but I definitely think I have broadened my horizons a lot more; I also have more confidence now.

How do you get on with your tutors?

I get on really well with my course leader, he is always on hand to help with queries or discuss your career plans.

What 3 words would you use to summarise your time here?

Going too fast!
