Where are you from?

Stafford

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I live in North Shields and I wanted to study nearby. Northumbria was recommended to me by my brother in law.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I love living by the coast and walking my dogs. I like drawing, and enjoy the cultural heritage of the North East.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

I was surprised to discover how much more friendly people are in the North than London. I have been most imprseed by the coast line and the outstanding natural beauty of Norhtumberland.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

My tutor.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

My tutor from my PGCE course last year.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?

I have organised a cake sale in the coach lane students union to raise money for St Oswald's Hospice where my father in-law died a day after my birthday in 2013.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I want to be a teacher. I would like to influence art teaching policy at a national level.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I have been on placements. Most memorable is a lesson in which I taught a year 5 class about the highwayman poem by Alfred Noyes. I used historical artifacts and theatre to bring the lesson alive. The children were completely engaged- very rewarding.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

If you have any problems- speak up straight away- the support form my tutors has been fantastic.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I am more confident.  I have also discovered that i am robust than i used to be- able to endure difficulties and have the confidence to seek help when needed.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Supportive, valued, development

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes I would.
