Design Management

What MA Course are you studying with us, and if applicable what pathway have you chosen?

MA Design Management, it is a course about the link between design and business.

Why did you choose Northumbria School of Design Newcastle, and what did you know about us before you applied?

I chose the School of Design because of the great facilities and the reputation for this institution in Korea is quite high. In addition, the course that I chose to study with the School goes well with my major gained in Korea. I was also told that Newcastle was a really nice city for students before I came here.

What do you most like about Newcastle, and how do you find the city?

Newcastle is a fun city for students; there are a lot of restaurants, bars and clubs. Newcastle has a diverse range of social activities for art and design, and I have been able to enjoy several events which have been held in the city since being here such as Art fairs, the Baltic party and the Christmas vintage market etc. Also, if you are a football fan, going to see a game at St. James Park is a must, I really enjoyed my match day!

How do you find the cost of living in Newcastle?

Before I came to Newcastle, I lived in London and Leeds for a bit. Compare with London, Newcastle is considerably cheaper. Also as a student, there are lots of places including shops, restaurants and bars that offer special discounts which is great.

Did you find the School of Design welcoming?

Of course, I'm really proud of the School of Design. It's a really good facility with a high quality of lecturers. Also I during my time here I have been able to enjoy and experience a vast amount of special open lectures that the School of Design hold, such as the 'future way of living' series.

How do you find your tutors and the staff within the School?

They're really friendly and very open in every direction. The tutors have a wide variety of design experience and backgrounds and if you ever have a question they are happy to help you.

What are the facilities like?

Terrific! There are 4 floors to the design school, and the whole building is open for use by the design students with really modern and good quality facilities.

What do you like most about the School of Design?

Facilities, Building and Special Events (Lectures).

Tell me a bit about your course?

I'm studying MA Design Management, which is about design in a business setting. We study about several strategies for managing companies, teams or projects. It also considers the value and contemporary influence of design in a company.

If you had to pick an object to represent your course, what would it be and why?

Diary. I think it's strongly related with strategies and management skills so it looks like a professional daily diary for you to put down the schedules for managing daily life successfully.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Innovation, Projects, Party

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

To think about what will you study and where will you study. Course, University, and City.

What are your plans now for the future?

I am hoping to get a job within Design, as well as holding an exhibition with my friends.
