What expertise will you bring to AI?

With a background in engineering and leadership, I have developed innovative AI and data solutions for both industry and government. My experience as a technical trainer specializing in big data has given me a unique perspective on the rapid evolution of these technologies and the growing need for ethical frameworks and regulations. I am eager to contribute to discussions on how individuals and organizations can responsibly develop and engage with AI solutions in the future, drawing on my expertise to shape a thoughtful and inclusive approach to technological advancement.

Research Interests

The capability of AI technology has skyrocketed in recent years, as has the investment in further developing it. As this technology is presented in more human-like ways (generative AI, humanoid robotics, voice-based activation and response), I’m curious to understand how this will impact those interacting with it. It is observed that use of search engines and social media can change the way people think, view themselves, and interact with one another. As we are on the cusp of widespread proliferation and rapid uptake of advanced AI technologies, it feels imperative to better understand the psychological impact of using them.

What made you want to apply for CCAI?

A few key motivators of mine felt perfectly lined up with the ambitions of the CCAI CDT:

  • Develop technology that delivers real value to users and society, not just technology for its own sake!
  • Cross-discipline collaboration will be critical for us to effectively integrate AI to society – law, education, psychology, philosophy, and much more will be needed, not just computer science (though that will absolutely be needed too!).
  • Society is on the cusp of mass adopting a new advanced technology – what are we going to do about it?

What are your ambitions for AI? How do you plan to change the world?

I would like to be in a world where humans value one another including our creativity, empathy, and insight. I imagine a world where we can use AI to assist and empower us, automating parts of our lives that take away the tedious, but without encroaching on tasks we get satisfaction and fulfilment from, or entrenching existing biases. I believe that by understanding how people respond to using advanced AI we will be able to build this future.
