World Food Day: Burger-Drop

On #WorldFoodDay we celebrate Business Leadership & Corporate Management graduate and Co-Founder of BURGER-DROP, Hasan Hamid.

From a young age, Hasan always knew that he wanted to go into business and undertook a number of jobs that helped him start to understand his path to this goal, including delivering pizzas, working in a call centre, and volunteering for charities. These experiences helped shape his understanding of how people, organisations, and how communities operate.Hasan Hamid

In Hasan's final year of studying at Northumbria he launched his first entrepreneurial venture, a social media marketing agency called GYB - Grow Your Business. It was hugely successful, and laid the foundations for him as a business owner. After running the agency for several years, he decided that he wanted to get stuck into a customer facing business, as opposed to client facing, that’s where BURGER-DROP was born.

The idea behind BURGER-DROP was to create a community-focused food brand that went beyond the typical fast-food burger model. It wasn’t about frozen ingredients or quick meals, but about returning to a more genuine experience, with high quality food and no gimmicks and ,since first opening in 2020, BURGER-DROP now has 7 locations across the UK.

Alongside his business journey, Hasan has also been deeply involved in charity and social work for many years and has made a personal commitment to continue volunteering abroad on a deployment at least once a year. So far he has visited Palestinian & Syrian refugee camps, delivered empowerment projects in Pakistan and, in 2026, plans to travel to Kenya to support sustainable community initiatives, with his long-term goal being to contribute to social impact projects across every major region of the world.

Sharing his advice for anyone looking to start a business, Hasan says:

"If you’re thinking about starting a business, the most important thing is simply to start. Don’t overthink or wait for the perfect time, take some kind of tangible action today. Get out there, test your ideas, make things happen.

For those who are already in business, and want to scale, my advice is simple: work hard. Work hard every single day, on your personal development, your professional growth, and your business itself. As the weeks and years go by, you’ll begin to see the results of that consistent effort. You’ll look back and realise that you’ve built something special, something that exists because of the work you put in every single day; and in no time, you’ll be ahead of the competition."
