Campus Food

As our catering outlets re-open, they will comply with the 'Good to Go' industry standard recognised by VisitEngland, the National Tourist Board of England. This mark means that we are following Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, we have robust risk assessments in place across our campus, and processes in place to maintain cleanliness and aid the implementation and management of social distancing measures.

Our measures include social distancing signage and floor-markings throughout campus as well as access to hand sanitiser dispensers at key building entry and exit points. Protective screens are in place in catering outlets for the protection of staff, students, and guests.

Campus Outlets

City Campus

  • Café Central - Relax with a hot drink and a selection of board games in the main campus café. Starbucks Coffee with locally produced morning bakery and hot grab & go breakfast. A selection of mid-morning tray bakes & deli style lunch.
  • Castles Subway - Subway counter offering a wide range of subs, salads and treats.
  • CCE Restaurant & Café – Daily selection of hot meals (including the staple Fish Friday). Breakfast specials, toast bar and traditional hot meals, including Coeliac accredited meals. Starbucks coffee with a selection of classic tea room cakes. Famous for its high street style pop ups.
  • Taste Northumbria - Stylish outlet on serving unique food concepts from around the globe, in a fast-paced, modern environment. The theme changes each term to allow you to sample a variety of menus.

Coach Lane Campus

  • Communitea - A selection of hot and cold breakfasts with mid-morning indulgent offers and Starbucks coffee. Famous for its lunchtime deli filled sandwiches.
  • Foragers – Delicious hot meals (including Coeliac accredited meals) and a popular spud bar. A selection of hot breakfasts and bakery items. Foragers Coffee Pod offers hand prepared artisan fresh coffee and Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate with a selection of house special wraps and sandwiches.

Specific activity in place to ensure health, safety and hygiene in our outlets:

  • Personal hygiene and handwashing procedures have been reinforced with all team members
  • Handwashing facilities available including soap and disposable hand towels
  • Disposable gloves available and worn for till work and cleaning/clearing away
  • Disposable aprons available and worn for cleaning/clearing away
  • Workflow has been planned to allow 2m separation between colleagues where possible
  • Separate workbenches used for food preparation
  • Team members always remain behind a screened counter during food service
  • Social distancing signage in place on walls and floor space
  • Floor markings used to ensure 2m separation during queuing
  • Directional markers identifying socially distanced flow of customers in and out of outlets
  • Payment transactions limited to one person at a time
  • Cashless payment system in place
  • Touch points are frequently cleaned and sanitised e.g. keypads, doors plates, fridge/ freezer handles, card machines, biometric sensors, trolleys, tools, delivery vehicle controls
  • Restaurant/dining area layouts configured to ensure socially distanced separation.
  • Encourage customers to self-clear tables
  • Restaurant/dining area cleaning only happening once food service has stopped and dining area is vacated
