3rd April 2025

New partnership with the Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust gives Sport and Performing Arts students a lifeline to their future.

The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust has confirmed its support of postgraduate sport and performing arts scholarships commencing September 2025. The partnership will enable three underrepresented students from the North East to access university as part of Higher Education Without Barriers.

Chairman, Richard Clark and Northumbria graduate said ‘I am delighted to enter into this relationship with Northumbria University providing a Scholarship on behalf of The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust.  The Trustees and I very are excited to see the positive impact of the Scholarship for many years to come.  It is a fitting legacy for Liam, bonding the Charity started in Liam and Chloe’s honour, with the University at which Liam was a successful student studying Sports & Exercise Science. The Charity’s aim is to “inspire and support others to achieve their full potential through the love of sport and performance” so we are delighted to support these scholarships to support students at Northumbria University’.

The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust’s mission is to ‘inspire and support others to achieve and reach their full potential through the love of sport and performance’. On the 22nd of May 2017, Chloe Rutherford, 17, and Liam Curry, 19, tragically lost their lives at the Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena. The Trust was established by their families to honour their children through what they loved most, with the aim of inspiring others to follow their dreams and achieve their goals in sport and performance.

Northumbria University’s Higher Education Without Barriers campaign, launched in January 2022, has raised £3.8 million and supported 2,500 students to date. With support from alumni, businesses, and charitable partners, the campaign provides a range of financial initiatives, mental health & well-being services, and community-based projects, to make participation and progression in higher education more achievable for motivated students, regardless of their circumstances.
