Vashti Hutton, Assistant Director Student Engagement

Vashti oversees the Student Engagement Team. We put our students’ experience at Northumbria at the heart of everything we do, and we want every student’s time at the University to be positive; to help ensure that happens, the team works with Faculties and other University services at every stage of the student journey to help support our students to thrive. The team has focussed activities which comprise: Ask4Help, Student Casework, Student Conduct, Specialist Student Support, Student Knowledge Management and Student Success.

Before joining the Student Library and Academic Services team in 2017, Vashti held a variety of professional support management and leadership roles within the University, including School Registrar for Design, and Faculty Registrar for Arts, Design and Social Sciences. Prior to working at the University, Vashti worked for the Civil Service, in the Further Education Funding Council.

Vashti led the development of the Student Progress service in 2017, bringing together staff from across Faculties to create a centralised team to provide impactful, consistent services and support for students, putting students at the heart of everything we do. In 2020, the refreshed Student Engagement team was launched, to further support proactive, personalised student support across all of our activities.

Vashti has played an active role in many University committees and change projects, recently including Student Attendance Monitoring and Learning Analytics. Vashti has a BA in History of Art from the University of Leeds, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Northumbria University.
