FAQ's

What does my tuition fee include?

Your tuition fee covers teaching, academic supervision and access to Northumbria's facilities, libraries and core learning resources. Some courses have additional costs — for example field trips, specialist materials or professional assessment fees. Additional costs are listed clearly on each course page, so there are no surprises.

Is there a deposit, and how much?

International students pay a non-refundable deposit £5,500 to secure their place and request a CAS. If you are a sponsored student or a Federal Aid student you may be exempt from paying a deposit.  Please see Useful Financial Information.

What is the 20% alumni discount?

If you have graduated or are expected to graduate this year with a Full Undergraduate Degree, Masters or Postgraduate Research qualification from Northumbria University (or Newcastle Polytechnic), you will automatically receive a 20% tuition fee discount (pro-rata if your course is longer than one year) on most* Masters and Postgraduate Research courses. (*exemptions apply)

Do I pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)?

International students usually pay the IHS as part of a Student visa application of more than six months, which gives you access to the NHS. Please see Immigration Health Surcharge.

What funding is available for UK undergraduates?

UK undergraduates can apply for tuition fee and maintenance loans through Student Finance England, and may also be eligible for University scholarships. Please use the scholarship search at the top of this page to check your eligibility.
