Performance and Identity

Meet our staffThe group's achievements include the authorship of the play 'Motherland' (2008) with its focus on Afghanistan and Iraq combatant's personal relationships, and the international presentation of the performance 'The Tin Ring' (2011) based on a Holocaust memoir. Other biographical 'performed testimonials' relate to Northern Ireland's recent history. The group's research includes the theorisation of 'presence' which has advanced the relationship of philosophy to performance.

Equally engaged with academic research and professional practice the group is currently developing research related to disability, ethics and participation, mobile communications and site-specific modes of dissemination. Performance and Identity benefits from some of its member's experience of leading and directing theatre companies, including the direction of the internationally scoped Gateshead International Festival of Theatre (GIFT), and is in a research partnership with Newcastle's Live Theatre.
