The NU VIP Scholarship

Are you a new UK/Home student applying to study full-time at Northumbria University in 2025/26? If so, and you’ve pre-registered as a Clearing VIP, you could be eligible to apply for an exciting scholarship worth £4,500! 

Who can apply?  You must:

  • Have Home Fee Status - This includes students domiciled in Jersey, Guernsey, The Channel Islands, Ireland and Isle of Man
  • Have applied after Saturday 05 July 2025 
  • Hold a Clearing offer in principle for an undergraduate course 
  • Have referred yourself to Northumbria via UCAS (check your Clearing offer confirmation for how to do this) 

Successful students will receive a total of £4,500, paid in instalments* throughout years one, two and three.  This additional support will help students focus on their studies and assist with budgeting.

It is important to remember that you are responsible for the content of any work you submit.  AI can help with things like improving grammar, helping with structure format, organising ideas, and generating suggestions. However, the main content, analysis and conclusions in your work must always be your own.

Terms and Conditions

To be considered for the NU VIP Scholarship you must also;

  • Have applied to study on a Full-Time basis on an Undergraduate Course starting in first year at Level 4 at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus, commencing September 2025
  • Have pre-registered for Clearing VIP access
  • Meet the conditions of your offer and individual entry requirements
  • Be a self-funded student (i.e. not sponsored by an employer)
  • Apply for one or more elements of the Government Student Finance package (for example, Tuition Fee loan, Maintenance loan)
  • Register with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW) or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI)
  • As a Scottish student, register with Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS) and apply to be means-tested for maintenance funding, in order that SASS can send your data to Student Finance England
  • Agree to share consent via your Student Finance Provider with Northumbria University
 

*Important Information 

  • Students selected for the NU VIP Scholarship will not be eligible for any other Undergraduate awards
  • To be eligible to apply, you must be starting at Level 4 - the first year of an undergraduate degree
  • The NU VIP Scholarship is awarded as cash
  • *Payments will be made as £375 (25%) by the end of November 2025, £375 (25%) by the end of February 2026 and £750 (50%) by the end of May 2026
  • The award will be made for three years maximum
  • The award is provided on an annual basis, on the condition the successful students progress to the next year of study
  • No award will be made in placement year, or should you resit a year
  • If you are undertaking a Level 3 (Foundation Year or Extended Degree) qualification, you are not eligible for the NU VIP Scholarship
  • If you defer your place at Northumbria University before the Award has been paid, the Award offer will be withdrawn
  • If you decide to leave your course after the Award payment has been made, the University will not make efforts to reclaim the amount
  • The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal

  • Submit an application no longer than 3000 characters (500 words) answering the question:

    • If you would like to submit your application via video you are able to do so via the 'file' function on the application form
  • Applications close at 16:00 on Sunday 31 August 2025
  • We will let you know the outcome of your application no later than Friday 12 September
