Where are you from?

China

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

It is because my former schools in China has a corporate program with Northumbria University and it is a great opportunity to experience a different life.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Small city and easy to reach to the city centre. Best thing is going outside when sunny days.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

They told me that Newcastle would snow for 3 months! But no snow this year, so sad!

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, all the tutors are really willing to help. All my seminar tutors are nice and I feel really lucky!

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

The good facilities including computers, and gym.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

Tutors have help me a lot and always reply my e-mails but I think I'm kind of solving all my problems on my own or with my best friends.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

My HR0275 seminar tutor Claire Heiley. My best tutor here and help me feel more comfortable studying here cause studying in another language and different culture makes me nervous.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Gym and library.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?

No sports team, but some volunteer projects. Most are just cleaning up work but easy for us overseas students cause no need really much communication cause still less confident about speaking in English.

What is the best thing about your course?

Still having individual time.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Seminars, because we have to think and speak out.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

Actually, no clear plan about that. But studying here helps me build more confidence and could plan time more effectively.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

To some overseas students: studying here is more difficult and challenging than we thought before. Because of different culture, communicating with foreigners are really difficult especially their speed would not like other foreigners we met before and so many accents here. We overemphasized on the ranking of the universities in China, but don't let it stop you studying here. It's still a chance and you even can't handle everything in the universities you thought we the low rankings.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

My confidence has improved so much!

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Study, Internet, eat,

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes!
