Integrated Working in Early Years

Where are you from?

Newcastle upon Tyne

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I chose Northumbria University as the course was flexible to fit around my work load. Throughout my one and a half years of training the lecturers have been supportive and helpful, and have replied to E-mails following feedback within 24 hours. If I was to do further education I would certainly chose Northumbria.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

There is plenty to see and do within Newcastle town centre. You can shop till you drop and eat any nationality of food at any time. There are several museum's to help you gain a knowledge of the culture and past life of Newcastle. Also the public transport is reliable and the costs are relatively reasonable.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

Transport to and from Newcastle city center to the University itself is reliable and frequent. The library access is open long hours and there are plenty of resources to go around. Lots of shops and an excellent night life.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

The staff at Northumbria were very helpful and warming to us throughout our time here. The students seem to come from different areas and everyone wants to make friends and feel part of the class groups. I have made several friends from my course and hope to stay in contact with them.

I have appreciated all of the help and support I have been given, and have used this to my advantage as this has shown within my marks.

What is your favourite place on campus?

The library top floor where nobody is aloud to speak. I can work through all day with no distractions and complete so much work.

What is the best thing about your course?

We have sessions every week which are very useful, and we have plenty of time to complete the work with more than enough resources.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

To always keep positive, and to always ask for help. You are not a bad person if you say you do not understand. seeking help from others and supporting each other is very important.

I have been in placements for several years while completing my university work, and I have gained several skill and qualities. I have understood how important communication and good working relationships with colleagues are, and how these can encourage your development as a professional and can create a warm caring atmosphere for children to develop within.
