Biography

I studied for my first degree at Northumbria University in English Literature and History and graduated in 2014. Following this I completed my Masters degree with Northumbria, in collaboration with the AHRC Heritage Consortium, on the reception of the Romantic poet Lord Byron within Newcastle Upon Tyne’s Literary And Philosophical Society. I am currently studying for an English Literature PhD in Romanticism.

Research Themes & Scholarly Interests

My research examines the literature and culture of the late Romantic period, focussing particularly on the relationship authors experienced with their audiences. This work touches on theories of reception, print culture, institutional culture, book history and psychoanalysis.

My MRes dissertation focussed on the reception of Lord Byron’s poetry within The Literary Philosophical Society of Newcastle Upon Tyne by delving into the archives stored there. This was in order to query current models of reception theory, analyse the way books were disseminated and discussed in the early nineteenth century through institutional culture, and to better understand the way Romantic writers engaged with their audiences.
