Internships and Funding

NU:Internship Summer Scheme 2024

Northumbria University is offering organisations the opportunity to receive funding to recruit our student and graduating talent through our NU:Internship Summer Scheme, which is all focused around providing internship opportunities taking place through June and July 2024.

Our students can offer a wealth of benefits to your business or organisation including an injection of skills, up-to-date knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm to drive your business further.

A student or graduate could help your business innovate and grow by filling a temporary skills gap or vacancy, addressing a project, contributing to the development of a new product, or helping implement improvements to business process.

It is a cost-effective way for you to identify future talent or to provide an extra pair of hands to get your business through a busy time.

You will also be providing valuable work experience for students to increase their employability.

We will:

  • Provide full funding (provided by Office for Students) to support the salary of an Intern, to join your team for up to 250 hours. Please note that all hours must be completed by 31st July 2024 and unfortunately, we cannot offer any extensions.
  • Provide a maximum funding among of £2,860 to each organisation.
  • Assist with the promotion of all internship opportunities to our students and graduating class (2024 graduates).
  • Assist with the collation of all eligible applications and work with you throughout the recruitment and selection process.
  • The scheme will be delivered inline with UK Subsidy Control Regulations.

You will:

  • Provide an appropriate level internship, preferably linked to the degree programme of the student, based on a full time position (35 hours per week).
  • Offer a starting salary of, at least, National Living Wage (£11.44 From April 2024).
  • Be required to pay the Intern through your company’s PAYE process (all funding will be paid at the end of the internship on receipt of copies of Intern payslips).
  • Be registered with Companies House or Charity Commission.

Interns will:

  • Be UK/EU Northumbria University Undergraduate students (on foundation or first degree),or graduating in Summer 2024.
  • Interns must not have worked for you in any capacity previously.
  • Students with little or no work experience, or from groups shown to have increased barriers to employment, will be strongly encouraged to apply for roles.
