Accreditation and Recognition

It is important that our Architecture and Built Environment courses meet the requirements of industry as represented by the various professional bodies. All our degree programmes are professionally accredited, some with multiple accreditations, and meet the underpinning knowledge and understanding requirements for registration set out by a professional body.

This is achieved through the assessment of the programmes against defined and accepted standard criteria. The University is periodically visited by representatives of these professional bodies to ensure that the programmes adhere to their criteria.  Examples of some of the professional bodies we work with are listed below:

 

ARB logoThe following course has been accredited by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for the purpose of a Part 1 qualification:

  •  BA (Hons) Architecture

 

The following course has been accredited by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for the purpose of eligibility for registration with that body:

  • BA (Hons) Architecture

 

The following course has been accredited by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for the purpose of a Part 2 qualification:

  • Master of Architecture (MArch) 

The following courses has been accredited by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) for the purpose of eligibility for registration with that body:

  • BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying

CIH logoThe following courses have been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) for the purpose of eligibility to apply for Chartered Membership with that body:

  • MSc Surveying (Housing)

RIBA logoThe following course has been validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) at Part 1 level for the purpose of eligibility for membership of the RIBA:

  • BA (Hons) Architecture


The following course has been validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) at Part 2 level for the purpose of eligibility for membership of the RIBA:

  • Master of Architecture

It has been 50 years since Northumbria University started offering Quantity Surveying and Real Estate and in 2023 we will celebrate 50th anniversary since these two programmes received CNAA award status and were accredited by RICS, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The following courses have been accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for the purpose of graduate membership:

  • BSc (Hons) Building Surveying 
  • BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying 
  • BSc (Hons) Real Estate
  • MSc Construction
  • MSc Construction Project Management
  • MSc International Real Estate
