Our Alumni - Work For Us
Researchers at Northumbria University's Centre for Global Development (CGD) are creating a world-leading hub of research expertise, knowledge exchange and learning on volunteering, humanitarian crises and development. The CGD combines academic research excellence, specialist volunteering knowledge, methodological insight and skills, cross-sectoral stakeholder engagement, as well as significant experience in diverse global settings.
We work in partnership with leading global volunteering organisations, such as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), VSO and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), to design and deliver work together to create new understandings and promote changes in policy and practice, particularly in the context of the localisation agenda. We also work closely with academics across the world building networks and connections and promoting new voices in volunteering and development research.
Our work is supported through significant funding from UK research councils, leading global humanitarian agencies and NGOs in the UK and internationally.
This area of CGD's work is recognised as one of Northumbria's Peaks of Research Excellence, which are a vital part of the university's research landscape highlighting key areas that respond to the needs of the communities locally, nationally and internationally. You can find out more information about the 'Volunteering, Humanitarian Crises and Development' Peak of Excellence here.
If you would like to get in touch to discuss our areas of expertise or explore ideas for potential collaborations, please contact Prof Matt Baillie Smith or Prof Katy Jenkins, co-Directors of the CGD.
You can find more information about our flagship projects in this area through the project links below.
