About Creative Fuse North East 2.0

Creative Fuse North East is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council. Phase 2 of the Creative Fuse North East project will investigate how innovation can support new approaches to problem solving for the region’s creative, cultural, digital and IT (CCDIT) sectors. It will explore the creative and commercial landscape of North East England. It will highlight opportunities for effective resource use and best practice in workforce development, business growth and innovation, identifying ways that universities can support the sectors.

Part of the research focus for Northumbria University’s Creative Fuse project team involves developing an improved understanding of knowledge exchange and its role in catalysing innovation. Knowledge exchange has been defined as “a process that brings together academic staff, users of research and wider groups and communities to exchange ideas, evidence and expertise” (UK Office for Students, 2022). Our intent is to further the understanding of how the nature of engagements between the academy and external partners influences the knowledge exchange process, the nature of knowledges being exchanged, and the value created for the various stakeholders involved. In particular, we are interested to understand the value created for the academy, through participating in such exchanges.

What is required from you:

You are asked to share a brief account of your own experience of knowledge exchange, giving examples of activities that you believe to have been exemplary. We also ask that you participate in speculating about what a boundary-pushing, progressive knowledge exchange activity would involve. We want to ensure that you are able to make informed choices about the information you share with us. We will inform you what the research is for, and how your information will be used, shared, and protected by Northumbria University.

All your information is protected under the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulations 2021. You may withdraw your permission at any time, or ask to access the information at any time by contacting the programme delivery lead, Dr Ollie Hemstock (contact details above). All project data is anonymised and redacted and raw primary data encrypted and securely locked away in order to ensure confidentiality. Project findings will be published in various academic and industry conventions, including conferences and journals as well as the press. All names of participating companies and individuals will automatically be redacted, unless you choose to be named for PR purposes in which case written consent will be recorded.

Following completion of the project (31st December 2022), all anonymised and redacted data will be stored on a publicly accessible and usable digital repository for three years. The anonymised transcripts and field notes will simultaneously be kept securely for a maximum of ten years, after which time all digital, audio and video recordings will be erased and paper files shredded. If this data continues to be in use or remains potentially relevant after the period of ten years, the data will remain stored securely.
