Aymen Ben Dhahbi Gatri

I received my first Engineering degree from the University of Wuppertal in Germany and my PhD in Physics, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering with a focus on Optical Wireless Communications from Northumbria University. I have more than 14 years of professional experience in various industries and positions including IT, automotive, defence, raw materials and energy. I have conducted several research projects at the Northumbria's Communications Research Lab and Optical Communications as well as the Bonn Rhein Sieg University of Applied Sciences. My research focus is digital transformation among various industries, in particular how digital transformation is driving 5G, IoT and futuristic Cybersecurity strategies.

What are you doing now?

Heading the Services Delivery at Outotec for the South Territory of Europe and North Africa in the field of Mining, metallurgy and Energy.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

The R&D capacity in my field of Study which is Optical Wireless Communications.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

 A mix of knowledge-sharing and seminars.

How connected was your course with industry?

It was very connected to the state of the Art industry trends.

What was the best thing about your course?

My Supervisor Professor and his team.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

It provides me not only knowledge, but also expertise for life and how to perform project managements across various industry including my field of research.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Practical expertise Project management Process management IT Skills including modelling.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

The atmosphere among PhD colleagues, the technical facility and the supervisor team.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

It's a very unique experience, with a university which aiming to achieve great results.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Excellent, fruitful and knowledgeable.
