Northumbria University hosts and participates in a range of educational events throughout the year, providing opportunities for staff, students, and partners to engage with innovative pedagogical practice, share research, and celebrate teaching excellence. Celebration of Education
The Celebration of Education is Northumbria's flagship annual event, bringing together our academic community to showcase educational innovation and excellence.
This participatory and exploratory event creates space for meaningful dialogue about teaching and learning practice. Through diverse activities and facilitated sessions, we engage colleagues and students as genuine partners in educational development, fostering collaboration across disciplines and professional roles.
Recent themes have aligned with our strategic priorities, including 'Stimulating inclusive, sustainable and responsible educational experiences – preparing graduates for the future', connecting directly with our CITE Learning Circles framework and the University's broader educational strategy.
The Celebration of Education provides opportunities to:
- Share innovative teaching practices and pedagogical research across the institution
- Engage with current educational challenges and emerging solutions
- Network with colleagues from academic, technical, and professional support teams
- Participate in student-led sessions and co-created learning activities

Three Rivers Regional Learning & Teaching Online Conference
Northumbria University is a founding member of the Three Rivers North East Universities Consortium, alongside Newcastle University, Durham University, University of Sunderland, and Teesside University.
Each year, the Consortium hosts the Three Rivers Regional Learning & Teaching Conference, providing a valuable platform for academic staff across the region to:
- Present pedagogical research and innovative teaching practices
- Network with colleagues from partner institutions
- Engage with regional and national priorities in higher education
- Share disciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to teaching challenges
- Explore collaborative opportunities for educational development
The conference features keynote speakers, research presentations, workshops, and facilitated discussions, creating opportunities for meaningful engagement with the scholarship of teaching and learning beyond institutional boundaries.
Northumbria staff are encouraged to contribute proposals and attend this regional event, which supports both individual professional development and our institutional commitment to educational excellence.
The Researching Advancing and Inspiring Student Engagement (RAISE) Conference
The next researching advancing and inspiring student engagement (RAISE) conference will take place on the 9 and 10 September 2026 at Northumbria University. With a theme of Authentic student engagement in contemporary Higher Education, the two-day hybrid conference brings together students, practitioners and academics from across the world to share best practice, research findings and network with peers.
