REVEAL: History Dissertation Conference

Join us on campus to listen to some of our final-year History students present findings from their dissertation research. Students choose which time period, place and theme they focus on, so be prepared for a fascinating and varied afternoon!  

2.00pm - 4.00pm - Student Presentations on Dissertation Topics. Full details of speakers will be released shortly.

 

4.00pm - 6.00pm – James Brown will talk on 'Weaponizing human rights in international relations: From the Cold War to the Ukraine War'

 

Dr James Brown is a historian specialising in human rights during Cold War. He received his PhD from Northumbria University in 2023. His book, 'Moral Superpower in the Cold War: The Soviet Struggle for Human Rights Supremacy', 1964-1991 is currently in production.

 

Summary: A paper examining the use of human rights as a political tool in ideological competition between Moscow and the West during the Cold War and exploring parallels to today.
