Korean partnership claims high-profile nomination

14th October 2014

Northumbria University, Newcastle has been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards 2014 in the `International Collaboration of the Year’ category.

In recognition of a developing partnership with South Korea’s Kyungpook National University (KNU), it is a significant achievement which builds on Northumbria’s growing global presence and reputation.

Collaborative opportunities with KNU began in 2009 with sport and business undergraduates undertaking study placements and internships in organisations including banks, sports agencies and multi-nationals such as Samsung and LG.

The relationship has since flourished with wider collaboration and engagement between KNU and Northumbria, raising student mobility opportunities across all four faculties. In 2012/13 there were almost 40 student exchanges with KNU – and this figure is set to grow.

Rob Carthy, Director of International Development at Northumbria, said: “The strategic partnership between KNU and Northumbria has grown from strength to strength in recent years with successful links being supplemented by research and academic collaboration, and a broadening of the relationship across all areas of the institution.

"We are also delighted that so many of our undergraduates are choosing study opportunities at KNU for their development into global graduates and to enhance their career potential.”
