Business School alumni inspire next generation of marketers - #NBSmarketingreunion

15th February 2019

Marketing students have received career advice, mentoring and even employment opportunities from alumni following a reunion held at Newcastle Business School.

Up to 40 former graduates now working for a range of regional, national and international companies gave a series of guest lectures and one-to-one CV workshops. Competitions were also held to engage more the students and add to the fun. The #NBSmarketingreunion was well attended by current students and hailed a huge success that will now be repeated.

With almost 95% of students in graduate employment or further study six months after graduation, Northumbria exceeds the sector average, and reunions such as this continue to support and enhance career prospects.

Dr David Hart, Associate Professor in Marketing at Newcastle Business School, said: “It was wonderful to welcome back so many of our alumni – some flying in from France, Germany, Poland and Northern Ireland. The reunion was a chance for them to share valuable information about their career paths to our current students – something they all seemed delighted to do. They were able to deliver lectures on various marketing topics and offer individual career advice and support. Student competitions were also held to make the day as engaging and fun as possible.

“There were some excellent outcomes from the day, including job-shadowing opportunities and commitments from other alumni who heard about the event to come back to the University and talk with students about their respective careers. It was a really successful and enjoyable day.”

Marketing companies represented at the conference included Magility, Mediaworks, Zesty Marketing Agency, Silverbean, SLM Coaching, Vertu Motors, Dentsu Aegis Network, Purple Creative Studio, SITS Group, Robert X and MXB.
