Shop Central

The Capital Investment of £230,000 allowed the University to make significant changes to the shopping experience on campus by creating Shop Central.

The main shortcomings of the existing outlet were its size and location; the original shop was tucked away at the back of the campus and only offered limited front of house space and storage space. This was causing poor customer flow with only limited amount of customers being able to fit in the store as well as an excessive need for deliveries.

A lot more spacious

The solution was to create a retail space central to the campus and large enough to allow customers to shop with ease. The new retail outlet combines the original shop by Claude Gibb and the small Go Store in one location at the heart of campus. Shop Central is based opposite the library, making it more accessible to students and staff.

Customer feedback played a key role in both the exterior and the interior design of Shop Central; the University conducted extensive research with the student body. This ensured that the exterior has the right look, giving a welcoming feel and clear presentation. The interior is focused on effectively dividing the space in the shop to maximise the service. The new layout has also added space for freshly baked products and a coffee offer.

Focus on student feedback

Shop Central has transformed shopping on campus, offering higher standards of customer service, an improved student centric system and a strengthened culture of improvement.
