The Role of Academic Board 

Academic Board's primary role is to be responsible for academic issues relating to research, scholarship and teaching at the University and is integral under the Corporate Strategy. It provides advice on the strategic direction of the University's academic activity and in that context: formulates academic policy; oversees the quality of the academic activity; authorises awards of the University; and the frameworks of the academic programmes. 

The Role of Academic Board Committees

In addition to Academic Board, the University is supported in its work by a number of Sub-Committees. The Sub-Committees are remitted to consider and deal with specific business in more depth than would be possible or practicable at full Board meetings.  In many cases, the Sub-Committees have delegated authority from the Board to make decisions in relation to specific areas of business.  However, there are also circumstances in which the Sub-Committees provide detailed scrutiny which may lead to an endorsement or recommendation for final Board approval. 

The Role of Education Committee

Education Committee is a Committee of the Academic Board. Its primary purpose is to provide strategy and policy oversight for student learning and experience activities at the University and to advise on and monitor performancein these areas. It also oversees the quality and standards of academic programmes ensuring that the expectations of the QAA Quality Code are met. The Committee also promotes, stimulates and encourages the delivery of the highest professional and academic standards underpinned by an ethos of continuousimprovement, encouraging innovation and new initiatives and identifying and sharing good practice inall aspects of student learning and experience within taught programmes.
