What is my student email?
Every Northumbria University student is given their own University email account. This account provides a generous amount of online storage space for emails and is accessible from all computers on campus and via your own mobile devices.
Duo
To access your student email, you will need to have enrolled with our Multi Factor Authentication software, Duo.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) offers an extra layer of protection for your Northumbria account and the files and devices associated with it. With Duo, at the point of logging in to your Northumbria account, a prompt will be sent through to your personal device where you can approve log in. Please find our Duo support pages here.
You will receive an email from the Duo portal. You will need to click the link the enrolment link and follow the prompts.
We have also prepared a guide to help you to complete your enrolment, and we would encourage you to read this in full.
When will I use my student email?
You will use your student email account throughout your studies at Northumbria University. Your student email will enable you to communicate with your tutors and fellow students.
Important messages from the University will be sent to your student email account, and you will check it regularly for essential notifications and updates about your course.
Within your email account, you will also use the calendar to keep a schedule and set reminders about activities such as teaching sessions, study time, meetings with tutors and other essential tasks.
If you already have a personal (web-based) email account, and you would rather check your messages via that account, it is your responsibility to set up an auto-forward on your student email account to ensure that all official University communications are received. We will not send correspondence to your personal email account.
