Panopto: Your Online Video Hub

What is Panopto?

Panopto is the video capture software used at Northumbria University to securely record, upload, share and edit videos. These videos are linked to your Blackboard modules and programmes and are accessible from any device.

Tutors use Panopto to pre-record lectures and to capture live teaching sessions, so that you can review them at a time that suits you. The recordings can range from your tutor talking over a PowerPoint Presentation, live webpage, document or it could be a recording of a laboratory experiment, or a scenario situation.

How do I access Panopto?

As a student you can access Panopto:

  • Videos posted within your Blackboard module or programme.
  • Using Panopto Capture web browser recorder tool to complete assignments (if set by your Academic).

How will I use Panopto?

Some of the ways you will use Panopto are:

  • Watch videos of your lectures – you can watch lectures, tutorials, and workshops that have been recorded using Panopto.
  • Create recordings – Panopto allows you to create audio and video content, such as a recording of yourself delivering a presentation on a topic or subject.
  • Get help and guidance – Your tutors can provide video guidance, information and discussion of weekly tasks using Panopto.
  • Get captions and make notes – Panopto videos have closed captions to make them more accessible. You can also make notes on the screen while watching a video in Panopto to help with learning and revision.
  • Viewing assessment feedback -  Your tutors can give individual or group assignment feedback using Panopto.
