What will I learn on this module?

You will undertake mock assessments in respect of each skill area and you will receive formative feedback from tutors to help you to succeed in the Apprenticeship Assessment.

How will I learn on this module?

You will learn through a combination of practice-based scenarios, completing tasks aligned with the SQE2 assessment specification, in order to improve your skills in respect of all areas assessed by SQE2. These will be coupled with mock assessments, and formative feedback from tutors to help you to improve and to understand the approach that you are expected to take in completing the SQE2 assessment.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

You will undertake a series of practical skills workshops, led by subject specialists, in the areas of:

• Client interviewing and attendance notes/legal analysis
• Advocacy
• Case and matter analysis
• Legal research
• Legal writing
• Legal drafting

You will also undertake mock assessments and receive formative feedback from subject specialists on your performance and any areas for improvement.

What will I be expected to achieve?

Knowledge & Understanding:

1. Demonstrate the knowledge required of solicitors at the point of qualification, covering the following areas:
(a) Business Law and Practice; Dispute Resolution; Contract; Tort; Legal System of England and Wales; Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU Law; Legal Services.
(b) Property Practice; Wills and the Administration of Estates; Solicitors Accounts; Land Law; Trusts; Criminal Law and Practice.


Intellectual / Professional skills & abilities:

1. Demonstrate the ability to perform the solicitor’s roles and tasks as set by the Statement of solicitor competence

Personal Values Attributes (Global / Cultural awareness, Ethics, Curiosity) (PVA):

1. Demonstrate the ability to act honesty and with integrity, and in accordance with the SRA Standards and regulations

Module abstract

This module will help you to prepare for your Apprenticeship Assessment, Solicitors Qualifying Examination Part 2 (SQE2).

You will develop your skills in:

• Client interviewing and attendance notes/legal analysis
• Advocacy
• Case and matter analysis
• Legal research
• Legal writing
• Legal drafting

You will complete practical tasks in respect of each skill, centred around the practice areas of Criminal Litigation (including advising clients at the police station), Dispute Resolution, Property Practice, Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice, and Business Organisations, rules and procedures (including money laundering and financial service. Through these tasks, which will be aligned with the SQE2 Assessment Specification, you will develop your understanding of how to practice effectively and to the Threshold Standard.
