Please note the enrolment deadline date for programmes starting in July 2024 is midnight on 27th June 2024.

Please expand the sections below to get your journey with us off to the best start. Your Welcome Pack is also below, which contains lots of useful information and guidance.

As a Distance Learning student, you can enrol from home and are not required to travel to campus.

The way you enrol will depend on how you pay for your programme:

Self-funding or in receipt of a postgraduate student loan

This guidance applies if:

  • You are self-funding or
  • You will be receiving a post graduate student loan from Student Finance England (SFE) or Student Finance Wales and are therefore required to pay for your first module upfront

Sponsored students, tuition fee loan and ELCAS

This guidance applies if:

  • You are being sponsored, for example by your employer
  • Your tuition fees will be paid by Student Finance Northern Ireland or Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS)
  • You are in receipt of partial funding from ELCAS
  • You are studying an undergraduate Carousel Distance Learning programme and your tuition fees will be paid by Student Finance England (SFE) or Student Finance Wales

When you have successfully completed the enrolment task and paid for your first module, you will gain full access to your module content on Blackboard within 48 hours.

Please note, course content may not be available on Blackboard until your course start date.

What is my Northumbria University IT Account?

Every student at Northumbria University has their own IT account. You will be allocated an IT account when you enrol on your course.

Your IT account is personal to you, and you will use it throughout your studies here at Northumbria University. Your IT account details, such as your password, should never be shared with anyone.

Your IT account will enable you to access the IT systems and software that you will use during your studies. As well as logging in to computers on campus, your IT account is used to log in to resources such as:

  • Blackboard - Northumbria University’s online learning platform.
  • Your Student Portal - the online hub where you can get information, help and support.
  • - where you can access your University emails and save your important files.
  • NU Connect - Northumbria University’s free mobile app.

How do I get access to my account?

Your Northumbria username and password can be found in your welcome email from Northumbria University Enrolment. To access your account safely, you will also need to enrol with Duo, the multi-factor authentication software we use here at Northumbria - see below for details.

If you forget your username or password, you can contact IT Support

Duo Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) offers an extra layer of protection for your Northumbria account and the files and devices associated with it. With Duo, at the point of logging in to your Northumbria account, a prompt will be sent through to your personal device where you can approve log in. Please see our Guide to enrolling with Duo here.
