What appealed to you about Northumbria University?

The student life it has to offer. There is always something going on at the Students’ Union. Also there is all sorts of support and help for students to choose from. And most importantly, the good reputation Northumbria has for its architecture course.

Why did you choose Architecture?

I want to be able to design a building from scratch and see it emerge on site. Also I want to please the people using and passing the building. I want to be able to make a difference and improve people’s lives.

What do you like most about the course?

The friendly atmosphere in the studios and the up-to-date facilities make life a lot easier when dealing with design projects. Also having your own desk in the studios encourages independent learning. In 2010 I won the regional heat of the Association of Women in Property awards. It was great to be recognised for my work in a professional environment and the support I received from my tutors gave me the confidence to compete on such a high level.

How do you get on with your tutors?

They are all very approachable and easy to talk to. They treat you like an adult from day one. There is a mixture of male and female tutors, which allows you to experience a variety of approaches to architecture.

What will you do when you graduate?

Hopefully, working with large-scale buildings around the world and one day becoming a successful independent architect.

What do you do when you’re not studying?

In my spare time I go to the gym and socialise with friends. I also have a part-time job and I assist with university events to help me with the expenses of my course.

What are the best things about Newcastle?

The nightlife! There are lots of restaurants to choose from and the new shopping centre is good. Also everywhere is so easy to find.

What would you say to someone who wanted to do this course?

If you can handle design projects mixed with academic work and are passionate about Architecture then this course is ideal for you.
