Where are you from?

Dumfries and Galloway - moved to Northumberland from Stirling Scotland

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

It is local to me and offered the course that best suited my needs.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I like Newcastle and surrounding areas. There are lots of things to do with the children, many of them free to access.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

I find the people and the culture in the area very friendly and inspiring!

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes. As an postgrad the experience has been very different to undergrad. The social element is much less prevalent but I have none the less met some very lovely people. I also come across fellow students within my employment sector and this helps build work relationships. Staff are very kind and helpful.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

I have loved studying again. It has done wonders for my confidence!

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

The tutors in the Education Department have been wonderful. They are so understanding of everyone's individual backgrounds and so supportive during assessment times. Support and advice are always on hand, as is support to develop and improve my skills throughout the duration of the course.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

Dawn Benson. She is an inspiration to all working mothers!

What is your favourite place on campus?

The library.

What is the best thing about your course?

Face to face classes where you can meet fellow students and share ideas. everyone brings something different to the table and discussion is an important element for all students.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

That I should have confidence in my abilities!

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would like to work in Educational Technology development. I have been able to focus the direction of my MA to my own interests and develop my skills in research. I am better read and have a better knowledge of where to find reliable research sources.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I have not, but I have been keenly following the work of Sugata Mitra from Newcastle University as this is of great interest to me.

Well worth it! The lecturers and support staff are so kind and friendly and have a wealth of knowledge.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I have increased confidence. I feel I have a different view of the world and am even more likely to question everything, rather than take it for granted, than I was prior to starting my studies.
