Donna Coombs

Nursing Studies/Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities)

What made you want to study Learning Disability Nursing?
My past experience and areas I have worked in, have always had links to working with people with specific care needs; LD Nursing offers many opportunities to work closely with a range of different people with very divers needs.Learning -Disability -Nursing -BSc _Donna -Coombs _Northumbria -University 255

Why did you choose Northumbria University?
As I am from the North East and know the excellent reputation and facilities Northumbria offers I probably wouldn't consider studying anywhere else.

How did you find the application process?
Apply can feel stressful, after being initially nervous about attending the group and individual interview I had nothing to worry about, the senior lecturers who conducted the interview were fantastic and really put everyone at ease.

Would you have done anything differently through your application process?
Definitely tried to have been less nervous!

Did you have any support from any of our academics / support staff / family / friends during your application process?
I met and spoke to current students and lectures before applying, they were able to give really interesting insight about becoming a nursing
student,

What hints and tips would you offer other students thinking of applying for this course?
Do it! The course is excellent, the lectures, support staff and 2nd/3rd year students are all really helpful to talk about any concerns you have. Coming to open events while thinking about applying was very helpful for me.

How have you found studying so far on this course?
The course is really busy, between practical’s, lectures and seminars over the course of a normal day, I'm lucky we have a really nice group who get on well and all try to help each other out.

Have you been involved in any placements?
If so, how have you found these? My first placements is in November, I can't wait.
