Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I chose Northumbria as a place to study as I wanted to do be in Newcastle because I heard of the variety of things to do and also the support available to students when moving away from home.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I love living in Newcastle there are so many different things to do and see. I love going to the new up and coming bars and restaurants around the city.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The friendliness of the city has surprised me most. Everybody you meet is so welcoming and friendly and the university feels like a real community.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, having student reps around as I was moving in really made me feel welcome and doing the Northumbria welcome freshers week really helped you fit in and meet new people.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

There isn't one person at university that has helped me most as all members of staff are willing to offer help and advice when needed.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

All members of staff at Northumbria showed passion which is inspiring in lectures and keeps you engaged.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Castles Restaurant in Ellison.

What is the best thing about your course?

The course is divided well between theory and practical sessions with a lot of interaction between students and lecturers. Also a good combination of assessments to keep you engaged.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

To be patient when finding something challenging and to ask for help when needed as support is there.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I have managed to get myself a job within the Quality graduate scheme at Nestle. My placement year helped me develop the skills I needed to get a job and it gave me the confidence to go for interviews. The university has helped give me the independence and confidence for working life.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I worked at Aunt Bessie's for a year long placement working within their food safety and quality department and thoroughly enjoyed it. It helped me grow in confidence and made me be more proactive about my final year of study.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Make the most of the opportunities the university has to offer there are so many societies and events to get involved with and help you make new friends.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

Northumbria has helped me grow in confidence and given me independence in every day life. Through group work it has also taught me to work with a variety of different people.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Fun, relaxed, sociable.
