Mentor Training

To support partnership schools, we have also developed a whole-staff mentor training package. The stage 1 training is a two-hour package of resources and guidance to support schools through the Northumbria University initial teacher training process which can be delivered  during  staff  meetings  or at any other time convenient for you and your staff. The stage 2 training is offered as an afternoon or after-school sessions to develop skills in different aspects of mentoring. Sessions are free but, unfortunately, no supply costs can be provided. Training for stage 2 will take place at the University campus or at a school venue.

Stage 1

The content is in two parts: the journey of the student throughout initial teacher training and how a mentor can best support the trainee; and; how to use the Northumbria University documentation to ensure that both mentor and mentee are well supported to achieve the potential of each individual trainee teacher.Sessions are free.

Stage 2

The training is designed for those who have attended Stage 1 training and for more experienced mentors. Training includes topics presented through a mix of interactive activities, information and discussion e.g. giving effective feedback, creating SMART targets, dealing with issues, different styles of mentoring etc.
