Overview of Department

We have an international and diverse team of academics teaching and undertaking boundary stretching research in Accounting (including Tax and Auditing), Finance and Economics. Our academics have a depth of both scholarly and practitioner-based experience.

The Department’s areas of research expertise are wide-ranging, with colleagues regularly publishing world-leading research in globally recognised journals. Much of our teaching is informed by this research, enriching the learning experience for students.

On graduation, our students will be well placed to pursue a career in accounting and finance. Our graduates have become senior directors and managing partners in top accounting firms, secured high profile roles at companies such as Nissan and P&G, and have enjoyed successful careers within leading finance, financial services and stock broking firms. So, our students can aspire to life-changing opportunities.

Study

We have three and four year undergraduate degrees, top up one year degrees, masters and doctoral degrees. We operate in a number of different countries (listed below).

Undergraduate degrees

The main two 2/3 year undergraduate programmes are Accounting and Finance and International Banking and Finance both with significant professional bodies’ exemptions.

We have excellent links with regional, mid-tier and ‘big four’ Accounting firms as well as with key national financial organisations enabling our students to experience what it is like to work in accounting and finance. Recent initiatives include our Deloitte student mentoring programme and our annual employer career networking event both of which have been extremely well received from students and employers alike. We actively engage with employers in the design and delivery of our programmes and through our employer guest lecture series to ensure that our programmes properly prepare you for your career in accounting and finance.

We actively encourage students to participate in the yearlong work placement to further develop your commercial awareness and employability skills. Our industry links and partnerships provide placement opportunities for students in international firms such as Goldman Sachs, PWC and many more. A number of our students have subsequently taken up graduate positions with their placement employer following a successful placement year.
