Marketing Operations and Systems

The Department of Marketing, Operations and Systems consists of around 65 international and diverse academic staff. The department encompasses three main subject groups: Marketing, Business Analytics, and Operations & Supply Chain Management.

As a department we research a wide range of areas, including decision-making & analytics, global operations and supply chain, counterfeit products, brand consumption, social media and digital marketing.

Overview of Department

In today’s world of ubiquitous digital disruption and changing attitudes towards life and work, future business leaders should be equipped with the knowledge and tools to keep up with a fast changing business environment and increasingly digitised business models. The Marketing, Operations, and Systems Department aims to be at the forefront of this through the creation of world class research that will redefine how businesses should operate in tomorrow’s world. Virtually every business on the planet tries to exploit or deal with digital transformation. By putting ourselves at the heart of this, the Marketing, Operations, and Systems Department will ensure that it remains hyper-relevant through building research expertise that matches the pace of ever-evolving business methods, techniques, models and strategies relating to the external markets and supply chains and internally to business operations.

We are not only a main player in the creation of this knowledge and exchanging it with businesses, but also in embedding this knowledge and new business tools in our programmes and curricula using a combination of enquiry-based experiential learning, real-time scenario case studies (rather than lessons in how to tackle the business problems of the past), and technology enabled learning.

Technological advancement can complement the provision of service, through enhanced information-based decision-making, supporting its marketing, supply chain management and internal operations. This is something the Marketing, Operations, and Systems Department acknowledges and always aims to contribute to through innovative research and high quality education.
