VIRTUAL EVENT: The Climate Challenge - What’s it all about?

Every day, the media is full of climate-related news. Recently, we have seen heatwaves in Canada, deadly floods in China, wildfires in California and an estimated 55 million people affected by droughts. We hear of climatic threats to wildlife as well as to people, but we also hear of commitments and innovations, such as NetZero, planting trees, and switching to electric vehicles.

Such discussions can, at times, feel confusing or even over-whelming.  Are things too late?  What solutions are available to us?  And how do these global challenges relate to us as individuals and organisations?

In the build up to COP26 (the UN Climate Change Conference), Northumbria University invites you to explore the climate challenge with us at our “The Climate Challenge – What’s it all about” virtual event.  Join expert speakers on a whistle-stop tour of key topics relating to the climate challenge, including:

  • What’s going on with the climate? (Dr Emma Hocking, (Co-Director of ONE Planet Doctoral Training Partnership)
  • How are communities impacted by climate change? (Dr Feisal Rahman, Research Associate, Living Deltas Research Hub)
  • What does climate justice look like? (Professor Gita Gill, Professor of Environmental Law)
  • What role does nature play? (Dr Andrew Suggitt, VC Senior Fellow, Geography & Environmental Science)
  • What is NetZero and how do we get there? (Professor Neil Beattie, Director, Energy Futures)
  • What is transport like in a low-carbon world? (Professor Anil Namdeo, Professor of Air Quality Management)

By exploring these key topics, and the relationships between them, attendees will be supported in identifying what positive action they can undertake, by themselves or with others, to make a positive difference.  We look forward to seeing you there!
