Ellison Building (ELA 101)

-

Join us to learn about the fascinating historical and geological context to the once booming metal mining industry in the Tyne catchment, together with an overview of the lasting environmental and ecological impacts of the industry. We'll also be showcasing some of the remediation work that the Tyne Rivers Trust and partners have been undertaking to tackle the problem.

About the speaker: Dr James Fielding has enjoyed a career in universities, national research institutes and industry across the world specialising in geochemical and ecological indicators of water quality, and paleoenvironmental and climate reconstruction. In 2024, James returned home to the North East to take on his current role as Tyne Mining Legacy Project Manager at the Tyne Rivers Trust.
