Shannon Allen

Shannon is a Senior Research Assistant in the Northern Hub for Veterans and Military Families Research at Northumbria University. 

Shannon is currently undertaking a part-time PhD in Criminology at Northumbria University exploring the concept of moral injury across different UK armed forces populations. This is a mixed methodological project utilising psychometric questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with UK service-police and non-service police veterans.  

The primary project Shannon is currently engaged in is the One is Too Many Projectinvestigating suicide among the Armed Forces and Veteran population and the impact of this on bereaved family members. 

Since joining the Northern Hub earlier this year, Shannon has been involved in a number of projects, including conducting a systematic narrative review investigating the impact of the Armed Forces LGBT+ ban with a specific focus on the effect of social isolation and loneliness. 

Before working in the Northern Hub, Shannon completed a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with a Year Abroad at King’s College London and an MSc in Forensic Psychology at Newcastle University.
