Our Alumni - Work For Us
Dr Kellie Jacques is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communities and Education at Northumbria University and Programme Lead for the Senior Wellbeing Practitioner programme within the Children and Young People’s Psychological Trainings (CYP-PT) portfolio. She is an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist and BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, with extensive clinical experience working across the lifespan and particular expertise in children and young people’s mental health.
Kellie completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford, having previously completed an MSc in Clinical Applications of Psychology at the University of Warwick and a BA in Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. Her clinical experience has included work in acute adult mental health and early intervention in psychosis services, followed by specialist work within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), including Learning Disability CAMHS.
Her academic and clinical work is closely integrated. She has a particular interest in the delivery and adaptation of evidence-based psychological interventions for children and young people, including low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy, and in improving the accessibility of psychological support for neurodivergent children and young people and those with learning disabilities. Her work also encompasses the education, supervision and development of the children and young people’s mental health workforce.
Kellie’s research is strongly applied and clinically informed, with an emphasis on research that can directly contribute to improvements in psychological practice, workforce development and mental health service provision.
Kellie’s research interests sit at the intersection of children and young people’s mental health, clinical psychology, psychological therapies and mental health service development. A central theme across her work is understanding how evidence-based psychological support can be made more accessible, acceptable and effective for diverse children, young people and families.
A key area of interest is the adaptation of psychological interventions, particularly cognitive behavioural and low-intensity approaches, for neurodivergent children and young people and those with learning disabilities. This includes research examining practitioner confidence, knowledge and training needs, as well as how psychological interventions and services can be adapted responsively to individual developmental, sensory, cognitive and communication needs.
Kellie's wider research interests include the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based psychological interventions, low-intensity mental health provision, workforce development and training, and trauma-informed psychological practice. Methodologically, she is interested in applied mixed-methods research, quantitative approaches, surveys, routine outcome data, and service evaluation, with a particular focus on translating research findings into meaningful improvements in clinical practice and services.
