Amanda McBride

Assistant Professor

School: Communities and Education

Amanda is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communities and Education. Based on the BA (Hons) Childhood and Early Years Studies degree, she teaches modules which explore young people’s lives. Her teaching foregrounds young people’s experience of becoming, their selfhood and subjectivity, particularly within systems of class and gender. Her work uses creative, qualitative methods of enquiry; collaging, in particular, runs through both her teaching and her research as a way of exploring the deeply felt but hard to say.

She is a member of Northumbria University’s Gendered, Violence and Abuse Interdisciplinary Research Theme. Her current research explores Operation Encompass, the early intervention partnership between police and schools, and asks how schools can support children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. Her other research project uses creative writing with young men to explore their understandings and experience of ‘masculinity’.
