Cycle 2 Campus

Whether you're a seasoned bike enthusiast or are just getting into cycling, we've got initiatives to suit everyone at Northumbria. Learn more about Cycle 2 Campus and the services offered to our students and staff below:

Cycle Tours with Newcastle City Council

Newcastle City Council hold regular cycle tours to help you plan your journey to campus or simply gain more confidence in the saddle. A number of dates are available throughout the year, and you can request a bike for the session as well if you don't have your own yet. Register here.

The Council run a range of free cycle training opportunities delivered by Bikeability instructors and open to anyone who lives, studies or works in Newcastle.  Contact yvette.dungworth@newcastle.gov.uk to find out more.

Bike Servicing

We hold regular Dr Bike sessions (delivered by the Cycle Hub) and bike security tagging sessions across the University.

City Campus sessions take place outside at the central quad outside Student Central on a nice day, or inside the Atrium at Sport Central on a rainy day.

At Coach Lane the sessions happen outside reception on a nice day, and inside reception/hub area on a rainy day.

All Dr Bike sessions take place 11:00-15:00. The dates for 2019/20 are listed below:

City Campus (Last Thursday of the month):

Coach Lane Campus (First Thursday of the month):

Cycle pumps and bike maintenance kits

You can access cycle pumps in the secure staff cycle stores on campus should your tyres be a bit deflated, and bike maintenance kits can be borrowed from the Security Offices at both City and Coach Lane campuses.

Cycle Tagging

Come along to have your bike security tagged by free thanks to the University’s Security team and the local police.  You can also pick up a free cycle lock.

City Campus – in front of the Students’ Union (in bad weather, this will relocate to the entrance of the Students’ Union)

27th February – 11.00-15.00

30th April – 11.00-15.00

Coach Lane Campus – outside of Reception (in bad weather, this will relocate to the indoor Reception area)

6th February – 11.00-15.00

7th May – 11.00-15.00

Cycle 2Campus

Cycle Parking

We have over 800 cycle parking space at the University.  Visit the sustainable campus map to view cycle parking locations on both campuses.

We also have a number of lockable cycle stores on campus. 

The student cycle store is located near Northumberland Building. Current students can get the access code via the student portal.

Staff cycle stores have key access. To collect a key, staff should visit Reception of Campus Services and show their Staff ID card.

To find where you can park your bike at a Metro or bus station please use the following link. You’ll find information about the number, type and location of cycle racks. 

Folding cycles are allowed on the Metro, further information is available on the Metro website.

Staff Bike Scheme

Members of staff can save up to £250 on the cost of a new bike and accessories with the Staff Bike Scheme, plus get extra discounts in a number of local cycle shops. For full details of the Staff Bike Scheme click visit the intranet pages

Buying a Bike

Looking for a lower cost bike?  You can buy second-hand bikes at Recyke y’bike in Byker   Adult bikes (fully refurbished and with a guarantee) start at around £80. The average price is £140.  They also stock some higher end bikes.

The next Recyke y’bike Bike Sale on campus will be: 26th March, 11.00-15.00, in front of the Students’ Union, City Campus
