Digital Certificates

From July 2026, the majority of graduates who complete a formal award at Northumbria will receive a digital Award Certificate. This is your authenticated, verifiable credential and can be shared instantly with employers, professional bodies and other agencies anywhere in the world. Physical degree certificates, in the form of a verified parchment, will no longer be routinely issued.

Gradintelligence is the secure web-based environment that hosts and administers the Northumbria digital Award Certificate and the Northumbria Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).

Following the release of your final academic results and confirmation of your Award, we will securely transfer your verified digital credentials to your official Gradintelligence account. You will receive email confirmation once this process is complete and your digital Award Certificate and HEAR are available for you to view and share. This email will also contain a link which you can use to activate your Gradintelligence account if you have not done so earlier in your studies.

Once activated you will have free, lifelong, access to your Gradintelligence account. As a graduate, you can login to access and securely share your Northumbria verified documents with individuals and institutions of your choice.

Please get in touch with the University using our Contact Form. You should provide us with a valid email address and as much detail as possible including:

  • Your Student Number.
  • Your programme of study.
  • The year of programme completion.
  • Your full name at the time you undertook your study.

We will send you an account activation email for Gradintelligence. You will then be able to login and view your Award Certificate and HEAR.

Graduates from July 2026:

Your certificate will be uploaded within 4 weeks of your final academic results*. If after this time your certificate is not available on your Gradintelligence account please contact the University via this form.

*Please note - Students re-sitting modules will receive their certificates once resits are completed and our department has been notified of your success.

If you self-registered for an account via the Gradintelligence website, the University will not have access to this account to upload your Award Certificate and HEAR. Please use our contact form to request that we send you a Gradintelligence account activation email.

Withholding of Awards:

Certificates may be withheld from students by the University for the following reasons:

  • In the case of a student appeal against the final award - the digital Award Certificate will not be uploaded to your Gradintelligence account until the outcome of the appeal is known.
  • In the case of a graduating student having outstanding debts to the University - the digital Award Certificate will not be uploaded to your Gradintelligence account until the debt is cleared. Please contact us to discuss any outstanding payments.  If you still have access to the Student Portal you can do this by submitting an enquiry at the end of the article Understanding what will happen if your tuition fee payment is late. If you no longer have access, please call the Finance team (0191) 227 4050 or contact Ask4Help on Tel: 0191 227 4646 or use this contact form
  • In the case of the employer of an apprenticeship student having unpaid training costs and/or unpaid co-investment invoices - the digital Award Certificate will not be uploaded to your Gradintelligence account until the debt is cleared. Please speak to your employer.

You can purchase a verified copy of your digital Award Certificate at a reduced cost of £20.

Duplicate copies will be charged at £40 pounds if the original copy is lost or destroyed. Multiple copies will not be produced.

We can provide a conferral letter printed on University-headed paper that details the course that you studied, the award you achieved, the level of award and the date that you were awarded.

You can request a conferral letter using this contact form. Please ensure that you include the full name under which you studied with us, your date of birth and/or your student ID number and the title of the award you completed. If you have any specific requirements for the letter, please include this detail in your request.

We aim to process requests within 10 working days, however this may be longer during peak periods.

A digital copy of your transcript s included in your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) which you can access via your Gradintelligence account. Please see Understanding your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) for more information.

Your HEAR will be uploaded to your Gradintelligence account at the same time as your Award Certificate.

Not all Northumbria Graduates will have access to a digital Award Certificate. In most cases (after July 2026) this is because you studied with us via a partner institution who have made the decision that a physical Award Certificate and module transcript are the most appropriate form of award verification for their students.

If you believe you should have access to a digital Award Certificate, please get in touch via this contact form.

No. Accessing your Gradintelligence account and viewing and/or sharing your Northumbria credentials is free of charge.
