Annette Coates

Annette is Head of Library Collection and Digital Services and manages the Collections, Discovery and Access, and Content Delivery and Copyright teams in the University Library. These teams provide print and digital services that ensure students, staff and researchers can discover and access resources they need to support their learning, teaching and research at Northumbria. These services include the Library Collection, Library Search, the University's Reading List service and the University Library online.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from Hull University in 1994, Annette completed a postgraduate programme in Anglo-Saxon Studies at Newcastle University in 1997, followed by an MA in Information and Library Management at Northumbria in 1998.

She began her career in academic librarianship at Manchester Metropolitan University Library in 1998 and worked in a number of roles across the Library service in her 10 years there. She became part of the MMU Library's senior management team as Service Manager responsible for electronic service development in 2004.

Annette joined Northumbria University Library in 2009 and held the senior management roles of Digital Library Services Manager and Content Services Manager before becoming Head of Library Collection and Digital Services in 2015. In her career at Northumbria she has been responsible for working with colleagues across the University to lead several significant service changing projects, including the establishment of the University's Reading List service, and the University transformation project to change library management systems.
