- You must first complete a Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Student Aid website.
- If you have an offer to study at Northumbria University,
or are a returning or continuing student, once you have completed your FAFSA, a
member of staff from our Student Advice and Support Team will contact you with
your Funding Notification Letter (FNL), setting out how much you will be
eligible to borrow during the academic year i.e. your Cost of Attendance (COA).
- Respond to your Funding Notification Letter by completing
and returning the Federal Loans Funding Acceptance Form (FAF) to: fc.financialaid@northumbria.ac.uk.
- Complete Entrance Counselling (See Section 10).
- Sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) agreeing to the terms
of the Loan - please visit the Student Aid website to do
this. You must complete a separate MPN if you are also borrowing a PLUS Loan.
- Parent Plus borrowers will be required to complete the following documents:
We can only start the process of originating your loan when you have completed the process as outlined above in Steps 1 to 6. Loan packaging and origination normally takes 10-14 working days.
Loan Certification
Once you have completed the required processes and necessary
documentation, we will originate (certify) the loans and send a Notification of
Student Loan letter to you. If you need a visa to study in the UK, you will be
able to use this letter to support your visa application.
