The COA is the amount it will cost a student to go to school. If you are attending School at least half time, the COA is the estimate of tuition and fees, cost of room and board (living expenses), cost of books, supplies, transportation, loan fees and miscellaneous expenses.

The COA is set by Northumbria University and is presented to students as a Funding Notification Letter (FNL). Students can borrow up to the COA. Please note that you are not required to borrow the full COA – it is not the cost of the program but the amount that we think the entire year will cost you. You can borrow less than the COA if you do not think you will need the full amount.

It is up to you to undertake a budgeting exercise to estimate, based on your financial position and expected lifestyle, how much you think you will need to borrow. For further information on adjusting your loan amounts, please see Right to Cancel or Adjust Your Loans (link)

Northumbria University recognizes that a student’s total expenses for the academic year may exceed the cost of attendance. In such instances a student can submit an appeal.

Appeals will be reviewed by the University’s Student Advice and Support Team to examine selected education-related expenses and evaluate your option for additional loan funding.

If you need to borrow more than the allowable cost of attendance please refer to the Budget Appeal Form on our website.

The Cost of Attendance for 2026/27 are estimated as follows:
