The joint venture, BIM Academy, was launched in 2010 to provide consultancy, research and education on BIM and digital construction to UK and global clients. In 2013, a spin-out company, BIM Academy (Enterprises) Ltd was formed.

Through BIM Academy, Northumbria researchers work with colleagues in Ryder to support the digital transformation of the construction industry through BIM. BIM Academy provides independent research-based expertise combined with practical industry experience which helps clients transform their businesses through the intelligent application of smart processes and digital technologies. Alongside other cutting-edge firms in the Northeast of England, BIM Academy is a key element in the International Centre for Connected Construction (IC3), a cluster of innovative regional organisations creating positive transformation in the global construction industry.
