Our Alumni - Work For Us
At Newcastle Business School, we’re passionate about supporting you to enhance your profile, build your business skill set and become a more, effective, more responsible commercial leader.
Our Business and Management BA (Hons) has been designed to help you top up your existing qualification and achieve a full degree. Along the way, you’ll also develop the transferrable skills you need to grow your business career, no matter what industry, area or role you’re looking to pursue.
Every module you’ll study has been designed to enhance your communication, multitasking, creativity and critical thinking skills. You’ll explore the cultural and ethical contexts in which international businesses operate as you go too, giving you the knowledge you need to succeed.
Below we’ll take a closer look at four modules* on the course and explore how each one will empower you to manage a brighter future and grow your transferable skill set.
1. Project Management
The tools and techniques of project management are universal. Whether you’re working in marketing, HR, finance, sales or another business function entirely, skills in this area will help you to lead a team and manage your workload successfully.
In our dedicated Project Management module, you’ll learn how to define the work that is required by your team, plan and control a budget and effectively develop, maintain and communicate time and resource schedules. You’ll grow your knowledge of how project management integrates with social and ethical frameworks too.
By the end of the module, you’ll be equipped with a wide range of professional techniques and methodologies to make your projects run on time and to budget. Above all, you’ll have the confidence to manage the implementation of your strategies from beginning to end — a key skill which will help you to stand out.
2. Entrepreneurial Leadership
In our highly competitive business world, organisations are searching for leaders who are skilled in both navigating the rapidly changing commercial landscape and able to spot new opportunities for innovation. No matter which area of business you’re keen to pursue a career in, learning how to drive change and generate new ideas are vital attributes for success.
Our Entrepreneurial Leadership module aims to help you develop your effectiveness in this area through the lens of entrepreneurial leadership.
You’ll cover six key topics:
- Creativity and Design for Innovation
- Future Search
- Making a Difference
- Connectivity
- Managing Innovation
- Entrepreneurial Leadership and Identity.
By the end of the module, you’ll have honed your collaborative, creative thinking and management skills and be prepared to take an ethically sound, culturally sensitive and sustainable approach to generating innovation.
3. Digital and Data Driven Marketing
Do you know what your customers want? Do you think they trust your products? Would they buy them again? The answers to all of these questions lie in marketing, and their responses affect every business area. Even if you’re not a marketer, a sound knowledge of successful marketing techniques and tactics is extremely valuable to help you build a business strategy that works.
The Digital and Data Driven Marketing module is designed to develop your understanding of how marketing campaigns generate new customers and enhance existing relationships. In the first part of the module, you’ll explore the basic principles of direct and digital marketing and investigate the range of media available to help you achieve your goals. You’ll build your knowledge of digital media tactics, as well as delving into traditional offline channels, such as direct mail and telemarketing.
Next, you’ll learn to apply this new knowledge into a campaign planning context. You’ll finish the module with an in-depth understanding of how to set goals, implement an end-to-end campaign and evaluate results; analytical and practical skills that employers are crying out for, no matter what your role or remit.
4. Financial Management
It’s true what they say: money really does make the world go round. It’s no coincidence that according to a recent report by Heidrick & Struggles, there’s an increasing demand for CEOs who have recent experience as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). To succeed in business, it’s vital that you have a knowledge of corporate financial theory and practice, even if numbers aren’t your “thing”.
Over the course of our International Finance and Responsible Financial Management module, you’ll learn the basics of corporate finance, exploring a range of theories that include stock market efficiency, portfolio theory, dividend policy, capital structure and more. Throughout, you’ll have the opportunity to put your learning into practice with a range of real world case studies. You’ll learn about the issues that responsible businesses face when implementing financial theories too.
You’ll finish the module with the practical skills needed to be able to propose sustainable solutions to complex financial problems — a trait that’s bound to impress any future employer.
