Our Alumni - Work For Us
What will I learn on this module?
Innovation, leadership and preparation for working life will enable you to critically review the physiotherapy decision-making processes that inform user/carer focused health and social care provision across a range of settings of your own choosing. You will be provided with the opportunity to identify and explore contemporary issues within physiotherapy and reflect on your own learning and development in relation to the development of a self-selected (small group) project.
The module will ‘bookend’ the programme, completing learning and development from a position of identifiable transferrable skills to that of the contextual insights required to be proficient at an entry level as a registered physiotherapist. The module will provide the opportunity to explore issues critical to the processes of decision-making, service development, and personal and professional development, in ‘preparation for work’. As a group, you will identify learning outcomes for the module, demonstrating insight into your development needs relevant to transition to working life.
You will have the opportunity to reflect on the decision-making, communication, interpersonal and CPD skills developed across the programme along with the integration of core areas of physiotherapy practice to consider:
Autonomous practice, learning and development
Employment and employability
Contemporary and emerging areas of physiotherapy practice and delivery
Service/quality improvement
Leadership and management of change
Contemporary Health and Social Care Policy
Innovation and entrepreneurialism
How will I learn on this module?
The taught content will be delivered and provided in a variety of formats including lectures, seminars and workshops, and you will be able to access materials on the eLP. Interactive workshops with module staff and external ‘experts’ will provide a dynamic format to critically explore your professional identity and maximise your employability and future development as a registered physiotherapist. Guest contributors including healthcare innovators, employability experts and leaders in their field will add insight from specialist areas of experience and practice. The vehicle for your learning and module assessment will be in the development of small group projects.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
Module information, assessment requirements and expectations, and important module announcements will be made through the eLP. Material to support your learning will be uploaded in advance of sessions. You will be provided with content verbally and guided through tasks during timetabled sessions. Support will be provided for your group-based project throughout the module. A dedicated assessment session will afford you the opportunity to ask assessment related questions in class. The Module Leader is there to support you with any queries that you may have about the module content. You will have the opportunity to receive formative feedback on your development during the module, and you will receive feedback on summative work to help you identify areas of strength and areas for development. There will be the opportunity to discuss your feedback with a member of staff. There is also further academic skills support available from the University Library services.
What will I be expected to read on this module?
All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. The reading list for this module can be found at: http://readinglists.northumbria.ac.uk
(Reading List service online guide for academic staff this containing contact details for the Reading List team – http://library.northumbria.ac.uk/readinglists)
What will I be expected to achieve?
Knowledge & Understanding:
1. Evidence a critical and innovative understanding of continuing professional development, service delivery and development, and leadership.
Intellectual / Professional skills & abilities:
1. Evidence the ability to identify, negotiate, record and achieve learning outcomes in the evidencing of autonomous learning.
Personal Values Attributes (Global / Cultural awareness, Ethics, Curiosity) (PVA):
Up to 3 specific module learning outcomes can be identified either as a whole group or within your own smaller ‘project’ groups.
How will I be assessed?
Formative assessment framed within Assessment for Learning principles will make use of your professional development portfolio to develop your summative presentation.
Formative and summative assessment will align with the learning outcomes as agreed by the group.
Throughout the module you will work on a group task. In the summative assessment you will individually critically appraise the task.
Summative assessment will take the form of an individual oral presentation to module staff, with a focus on your group project and your personal and professional development. Individual written feedback will be provided following the presentation. In addition, group feedback will be posted on the eLP. You will have the opportunity to discuss your feedback with the module tutor.
